Shirley Lauro's work A Piece of my Heart, honors the service of the brave women that served our country during the Vietnam War. Based on Keith Walker's book of the same name, Lauro's play draws from the very words and lives of servicewomen before, during, and after their service. The lives of three military nurses, an African-American intelligence officer, a Red Cross volunteer, and a USO entertainer are intertwined in an honest, poignant, and sometimes heart-wrenching display. Lauro's play tells an epic story of survival, redemption, and the unbreakable spirit of America's most unsung heroes.
