Fannin Battleground

Location(s):
Beginning March 19, 1836, the Battle of Coleto Creek was fought here between Texian forces commanded by Colonel James W. Fannin and Mexican forces led by General Jose de Urrea. The stone obelisk at this site commemorates the soldiers who fought during the Texas Revolution. The context of the Texas Revolution is important to Victoria’s growth, culture, and position in Texas history. Victoria is a key crossroads for the Texas Independence Trail, with proximity to Goliad as well as several significant sites along the Texas coast in addition to the Fannin Battleground.
